Gray Ghost Victorian Red

Gray Ghost Victorian Red

Score 2/10

Price (my price) $14($3)

Very light, rose color. Pear aroma. Very soft attack with fruit flavor. Too Sweet.

I found this wine at a Virginian souvenir shop in Old Alexandria. Unusual name of "Victorian Red" coupled with unusual winery name of "Gray Ghost" made me buy it on impulse.

A family owned and operated winery, Gray Ghost Vineyards is located in Rappahannock County, Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains area. They currently cultivate various varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Riesling, Vidal Blanc and Seyval Blanc. In 1993 they made their first vintage of Gray Ghost wines.

The winery name "Gray Ghost" is related to the Civil War, named after the nickname of John S. Mosby, a colonel in the Union. The winery is located on one of the routes Mosby used during the Civil War.

I just couldn't accept this wine. I found strange sweetness unlike dessert wine or some rose. I don't know why they make this wine and whey some people give high evaluation on this wine.

A blend of Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay.
